RBWC provides a low-key approach to the college essay that is helpful, personalized, and focused. College applicants learn the central RBWC techniques to writing and editing concise and controlled college essays.

Because the formality and structure of academic-essay writing leave little or no room for personal exploration, when young writers do enter the realm of personal-essay writing—at the critical moment of applying to college—they have no structural equivalent to the five-paragraph essay to follow.

The feedback RBWC students receive on each draft empowers them to choose how they want to shape their essays in a way that conveys exactly what they want colleges to know about them in the limited space allotted for application essays—usually about 500 words.
