What does the price of your service include?
Students receive two hours of instruction by phone, individually in person, or in a group seminar, plus five rounds of editing for each of the essays included in the package selected. RBWC helps students plan and maintain a working schedule to finish their essays and college applications on time.
Are there other fees?
No. With the purchase of a package, an RBWC student is entitled to the services outlined on this Web site for the number of essays included in that package.
What exacly is an RBWC seminar?
Although a business-style, lecture-oriented event likely comes to mind at the mention of seminar, RBWC seminars are more closely related to seminars in the educational sense of the word: open and democratic discussions. Once RBWC methods have been introduced in a seminar, students will have the opportunity to present (to the degree they are comfortable doing so) drafts in hand of their college essays, for feedback and suggestions on how to go about implementing methods studied at the seminar. Materials in the instructional packet guide students through sample essays of prior RBWC students. Through the use of helpful charts geared toward facilitating peer and instructor feedback, students are able to judge for themselves and practice methods as implemented in these sample essays, as suggested by seminar partners, and as they each make suggestions on their respective partners’ drafts. By implementing current best educational practices, RBWC helps students to gain a quick start on the methods that will shape their college essays and to gauge the positive risks they are willing to take early in the writing process, in about two hours’ time.
Do you provide refunds?
No, but RBWC does help you anticipate how many essays you’ll need to write with its essay-tracker chart, so that you may purchase a package with the accurate number of essays. If you are not sure how many essays you will ultimately need for all your college applications, consider starting with a package that includes a moderate number of essays for your application needs. If you find that you’d like help with an extra essay or two, you can add them on at the rate of the package for the total number. (For example, if you initially purchased the package with four essays and want to add two more, they would be an additional $65 each, per the rate of the package for five or more essays.)
If I email you about an essay without sending it, does that count as one of my five rounds of editing?
No. Feel free to ask questions, especially about methods covered in the seminar or individual session, if you need help applying them to your writing. If you are not sure about which direction to take an essay in (i.e. content), try to put together as best a draft as you can, and then to submit your draft with questions and concerns for that round. RBWC will be able to give you more comprehensive feedback and address your concerns by seeing the trouble spots and your comments together. This will also help RBWC get substantive feedback to you more quickly.
Do you write my essays for me?
Absolutely not. RBWC is dedicated to maintaining high academic and ethical standards in the college-application process. Because college-application essays are personal essays, RBWC seeks to introduce students to the diverse and exciting genre of the art form. Feedback in each round pivots on methods dedicated to making the most of this genre in the short writing space typically allowed in a college application. RBWC students learn to write better personal essays because they are introduced to practical, flexible writing methods and because RBWC works with students to plan, schedule, and write their application essays at a controlled and manageable pace. The essays they end up with result from the choices they have learned to make about writing personal essays.
Do you guarantee admissions to the colleges I apply to using essays developed with RBWC?
Unfortunately, RBWC cannot guarantee admissions results for its students, nor does it offer refunds according to admissions or funding results. RBWC does promise timely, capable, and attentive feedback for each student’s essays, as well as a greater confidence, sense of control, and understanding in writing personal essays for college admissions. Once students have registered with RBWC, their best essays will come through dedication to personalizing RBWC methods and to maintaining a controlled writing schedule.
